FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

1. How much does a kitten cost?

All our kittens are carefully raised in a family environment and receive extensive socialization during their first months of life. They stay with us for approximately four months, which allows them to develop strong social skills and a stable temperament.

Before leaving our cattery, every kitten:

• receives all core vaccinations including rabies
• is microchipped
• is neutered (pet kittens)
• receives regular veterinary health checks
• receives high quality nutrition during their development
• comes with an official health certificate, international passport and a 4-generation pedigree

The parent cats are extensively health tested. This includes HCM screening by a certified cardiologist as well as genetic testing for common hereditary diseases.

Prices vary depending on breed, color and eye color.

British Shorthair and Longhair kittens with standard eye colors are 1400 €.
Kittens with blue eyes or odd eyes are 1800 €.

2. What is a Lykanthera®?

Lykanthera® is a developing cat breed characterized by a unique “Husky” or wolf-like coat pattern caused by a spontaneous genetic mutation. The mutation affects pigmentation and creates a distinctive distribution of white within the coat.

Unlike some other unusual looking cat breeds, Lykanthera® cats have a full, normal coat without hair loss.

The breed is being developed through a carefully controlled breeding program with strict health and genetic requirements to ensure long-term stability and welfare.

3. What is the personality of Lykanthera® cats?

Lykanthera® cats are known for their extremely affectionate and people-oriented temperament.

Many individuals actively seek close contact with their owners. They often enjoy sitting on shoulders, cuddling close to the neck or calmly accompanying their person through daily activities.

Because of their curiosity and intelligence, many Lykanthera® cats can also be trained to walk on a harness and leash. Some even enjoy accompanying their owners outdoors while remaining relaxed and confident.

This strong social bond is an important part of the breed’s development and is considered alongside health and appearance in the breeding program.

4. How is the reservation process?

Once you have decided on a specific kitten and wish to reserve it, you will receive a reservation contract.

To confirm the reservation, a deposit of 300 € is required.

Please note that the deposit is non-refundable, as the kitten will be reserved exclusively for you.

The remaining balance is due before or at the time of collection.

5. When can kittens leave for their new homes?

Our kittens leave the cattery no earlier than 14 weeks of age, usually closer to 16 weeks.

This allows them to complete their vaccination schedule, receive proper socialization and develop into confident, well-adjusted companions.

6. Where are you located?

Our catteries are located in Germany.

One cattery is based near Berlin, while the second location is in Goettingen.

Visits are possible by appointment.

7. Are Lykanthera® related to Lykoi cats?

No. Lykanthera® cats are not genetically related to Lykoi.

Lykoi cats are known for a mutation that causes partial hair loss and a sparse coat structure. Lykanthera®, on the other hand, have a fully developed normal coat. The distinctive Husky pattern affects only pigmentation and white distribution within the fur.

For this reason, Lykanthera® cats do not exhibit hair loss and are not considered a hair-reduced breed.

8. Are Lykanthera® kittens available for breeding?

Only a very limited number of Lykanthera® kittens are placed as breeding cats.

Breeders must meet strict requirements and agree to the official Lykanthera® breeding program, including health testing, genetic documentation and compliance with breeding rules.

The use of the name Lykanthera® is protected and requires authorization.

9. What is the Husky pattern in Lykanthera® cats?

The characteristic Husky pattern is the defining visual feature of the Lykanthera® breed. It is caused by a spontaneous genetic mutation affecting pigmentation, likely associated with the KIT gene, which is responsible for white spotting in cats.

This mutation creates a natural distribution of white within the coat that gives the cats a wolf- or husky-like appearance. The pattern is not always symmetrical and can vary in intensity.

Within the Lykanthera® breeding program, different levels of white are recognized:

Low white: approximately 5–40% white
Mid white: approximately 40–60% white
High white: more than 60% white

The higher the white percentage, the more pronounced the typical Husky look becomes. Stabilizing this unique coat pattern while maintaining genetic health is one of the central goals of the Lykanthera® breeding program.

10. Are Lykanthera® cats hypoallergenic?

No, Lykanthera® cats are not considered hypoallergenic.

Like most cat breeds, they produce the Fel d 1 protein, which is the primary allergen responsible for allergic reactions in sensitive individuals.

People with cat allergies may therefore still experience symptoms when exposed to Lykanthera® cats. For this reason, the breed cannot be recommended for allergy sufferers.

Anyone with known allergies should always spend time with cats beforehand to determine whether they react.

11. Why are pet kittens neutered before leaving the cattery?

Pet kittens are neutered before leaving our cattery to ensure responsible breeding practices and to protect the long-term development of the breed.

The Lykanthera® breeding program follows strict health and genetic guidelines. Allowing uncontrolled breeding would put these standards at risk.

Early neutering also prevents unwanted litters and helps ensure that Lykanthera® cats placed as companions can live happy lives without contributing to unregulated breeding.

Only carefully selected cats are placed in breeding homes, and only with breeders who agree to follow the official Lykanthera® breeding rules.
